UAB continues to rise as a Best College, according to U.S. News rankings

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has been recognized once again by U.S. News & World Report as a Best College, ranking No. 137 out of 330 measured schools in their 2023 Best Colleges list. This ranking accelerates UAB up 11 spots from its 2022 ranking and serves as a testament to the university’s continued growth and national exposure as a competitive and attractive university.

In addition to being ranked as a national university, UAB ranked No. 64 out of 168 as a Top Public School, up three spots from 2022, and was also lauded for its campus’s ethnic diversity.

“UAB is a renowned institution where faculty, staff and leadership are committed to providing high-quality education and resources to diverse students from around the world,” said UAB Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Pam Benoit. “We are pleased to again be among the nation’s top institutions recognized for academic excellence. The new rankings demonstrate the caliber of UAB interdisciplinary programs and our approach to innovative and impactful learning.”

Additional rankings of note include:

  • The School of Nursing’s Undergraduate Nursing programs climbed one spot from last year, ranking No. 9 of 660 programs in the country.
  • The Collat School of Business’ overall Undergraduate Business programs moved 17 spots from its 2022 ranking to No. 108 in the country.
  • UAB’s School of Engineering’s Undergraduate Engineering programs ranked No. 137 nationally.
  • The College of Arts and Sciences’ Undergraduate Computer Science program was recognized at No. 141 of 307 schools.
  • UAB ranked No. 89 of 178 schools as a Best College for Veterans.

This is the 38th year that U.S. News & World Report has compiled their Best Colleges rankings. The latest edition assessed an all-time high of 1,500 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality.
