Humans of UAB: Teresa Tripp

My daughter started here last fall. So, in addition to starting here and being grateful for the opportunity to work for UAB, I have the perk of providing her with her education. She is now entering her sophomore year— look how God worked all that out.

She's my youngest. Our inside joke is that when she started kindergarten, I subbed at her elementary school. Then when she started college, I'm right here in it. I'm like, wherever you go, I'm gonna be right there.

I work in Student Involvement and Leadership. I handle all their accounting, onboarding, pay their bills, and make sure everything is running smoothly, financial-wise.

We oversee all of the activities here on the campus under Student Affairs. It's great; I love it. I love working here. One of our largest events is Connect Fest in the fall. We love all the first-year students to come out so they can connect with the whole community. Of course, the sophomores, juniors and seniors are also welcome.

When students are not here during the summer, it feels funny — like it does now. But we know they'll be back in just a little while. Meanwhile, we've got all of these orientation tours. So we still have students in and out, and of course, the ones doing the summer classes. But it's part of the process. Without them, it feels a little weird.

I love working with the students. They're so young, and they're just so cute, and they bring their ideas and the things that they wanna do. It's busy, but it's a good busy. I enjoy it, so the day goes by pretty quickly.
