Extended Drop Period

Dear Blazer families,
The following message was sent out to all UAB students on 7/7/2025
Starting Fall 2025, UAB is giving you more time to make decisions about your classes with a new Extended Drop Period. Instead of just one week, you’ll now have six weeks from the start of the semester to drop a class—no grade, no transcript record.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Applies to both undergrad and grad students in Fall and Spring.
- You’ll get a tuition refund, but course fees and student service fees still apply.
- The deadline is firm, so check the academic calendar.
- You can still withdraw from a course or the full term after that—just without a refund.
- Important: Dropping below full-time might impact financial aid, scholarships, visas, or NCAA eligibility.
- All UAB policies still apply—including the academic integrity code, non-academic conduct, and Title IX.
This change is intended to give you additional time to evaluate whether a course is the right fit for you and to make informed decisions that support your academic success. Got questions? Be sure to reach out to your academic advisor.
